Cleaning and Prevention
Dr. Shirk and his team are very strong advocates of prevention. The best way to prevent problems is to have have proper home care and routine cleanings. Our goal is to prevent problems or to catch them while they are still minor and easily fixed. Through proper education, we help our patients maintain a healthy smile.
Crowns, Bridges, and Veneers
If you have broken down or missing teeth you have many options to repair or replace them. If you want an esthetic option that is “glued” in, this is what you want. They do not have to be taken out at night, and you can chew with them. Crowns, bridges, and veneers offer functional and esthetic results that are virtually indistinguishable from natural teeth.
We always make every effort to save your natural teeth. However, extractions may be necessary when teeth are unsalvageable or when you have advanced bone loss. Dentures provide a removable option to replace missing teeth. Dentures can also be anchored to implants or any remaining healthy teeth to increase their comfort and function.
Our first priority is always to preserve your natural teeth. However, extractions are sometimes necessary when decay has made the tooth unsalvageable or have advanced bone loss. Before we extract teeth, we always discuss with our patients options for tooth replacement once the tooth is missing. These options include dental implants, bridges, and removable dentures.
Fillings are one of the most common forms of dental treatment. A filling replaces decayed or broken tooth structure with tooth colored materials that are extremely esthetic and durable.
A dental implant mimics the form and function of a natural tooth, which consists of a root and a crown. The crown is the visible part of your tooth, and the root is the part that anchors the crown to your jaw. Dental implants are a very successful restorative option. One of the major benefits of dental implants is that you can clean them like normal teeth, and don’t have to thread floss under a tooth to clean it like you do with a bridge.
These are clear plastic trays that you wear for a few weeks at a time and then change to the next tray. They slowly move your teeth into proper alignment to improve chewing function and esthetics.
Night and Snore Guards
Night guards (occlusal guards) can help prevent tooth grinding while you sleep or anytime you feel like you clench/grind your teeth. Snore guards are a mouthpiece you wear at night to help prevent snoring. Snoring is a very serious condition that should not be taken lightly. For a snore guard, you must have completed a sleep study, and have a prescription from a sleep physician for the snore guard. Once you have the prescription, we can handle the rest!
Periodontal disease is extremely common. As we age, we all lose bone. However, with proper oral hygiene, and routine check ups, we can minimize the chances of that bone loss causing problems for our teeth.
Professional teeth whitening is faster, more effective, and longer lasting than treatments you find over the counter. We custom make trays for your teeth that fit only you. These trays are re-usable. The bleach refills are affordable and we always have some available at the office for our patients who need them.
We recently have added 3-D imaging to our office. This CBCT imaging is extremely important in implant planning, root canal therapy, and pathology diagnosis. With this technology dentists can see more than we ever have been able to before, and provide an even higher level of care for our patients.
